The Second Treasury of Stanleth

The project ‘The Second Treasury of Stanleth’ provides in two parts - a first show at Selma Feriani, London, and a second at Elaine Levy Project, Brussels - an insight into the disappeared scenery of Stanleth, an irregular site of desolate conditions. The archive – photos, drawings, bookplates and texts – compiles documentation of this location in the attempt to portray elements of an atypical topography now vanished.

The Exhibition Series. Installation view

'The Exhibition' is a series of bookplates, from a supposed found catalogue that illustrate diverse installation views of a past exhibition. This exhibition titled The Second Treasury of Stanleth, as shown in the fist page of this series, gathered physical elements as well as artists’ interventions of them. The works displayed in this catalogue depict an exhibition that could be designed correspondingly to a non-site project around Stanleth. All location, exhibition and consequently catalogue are fictitious, fabrications of the artist who presents a fiction within a fiction.

‘The Site’ is composed of a collection of works that vaguely positions the project “The Second Treasury of Stanleth” in a physical landscape, bringing to light certain topographical features of the fictitious location, and revealing fragments of what could have been the aftermath of the natural disaster the allegedly took place in this site and ultimately caused its disappearance.

These works reinforce the notion of the archive as a place for exploration, where one can transform the no-place (inexistent place) to a memory-place (disappeared place). It sets a platform for multiple readings where the viewer is provoked to project his own imaginings onto the archive. Here there is no expectation of completeness; the gaps are intentional.
